RE: Nov. 13 Ontario College of Trades will bring protection, says reader

I am just a plumber so I don’t know Jeff Koller, the Industry Compliance Officer or the Ontario Construction Finishing Industries Alliance, but why is he all fired up about the Ontario College of Trades?

He says in the last paragraph of his piece, “The greatest value the College will bring to the compulsory trades will be in enforcement and protection of the trades from encroachment by unskilled workers.”

There is nothing stopping the enforcement and prosecution of unlicensed workers except the political will to enforce the rules we already have.

If the bottom line is to collect more money to finance Ontario service raise the money through the fairest way which is a consumption tax.

I’m sure that hiring inspectors for trade enforcement will pay for itself and be beneficial to hiring apprentices instead of helpers.
