Aker Solutions to build TransCanada's natural gas-fired plant in Oakville, Ontario

TransCanada Corp. has awarded Norway-based Aker Solutions ASA a $400 million contract to construct a 900-megawatt natural gas-fired combined cycle power plant in Oakville, Ontario

In a joint venture with consultant HDR Corp., Aker will undertake the engineering, procurement and construction work on the project in collaboration with TransCanada.

TransCanada will will build, own and operate the plant, having secured a 20-year clean energy supply contract with the Ontario Power Authority (OPA).

The project begins immediately and the plant is expected to come on stream by the end of 2013.
