Twelve Algerian employees of SNC-Lavalin die in bus bombing

Twelve Algerian employees of Montreal-based SNC-Lavalin were killed in a terrorist attack on August 20, 2008, while riding on a bus to work on the Koudiat Acerdoune water treatment plant and distribution project in Algeria. Another 15 employees were wounded in the bombing.

SNC-Lavalin has a longstanding relationship with the people of Algeria and has carried out many projects in the country over more than 30 years.

In a statement, the company said “We would like all our employees to know that we strongly deplore this act of terrorism, and that their health and safety remains a top priority for the company. We continue to work closely with Algerian authorities to ensure the safety and security of all our personnel.”
