Federal government contributes $1.8 million to Kapuskasing water system upgrade

KAPUSKASING

The federal government will contribute $1.8 million for water distribution system improvements in the Town of Kapuskasing. The federal contribution would be up to one-third of total eligible costs, which are estimated at $5.6 million.

“Supporting improvements to this water distribution system is one of the ways we will deliver results for the residents of Kapuskasing,” said Guy Lauzon, Parliamentary Secretary for the Federal Economic Development Initiative for Northern Ontario.

The project involves the replacement of an elevated storage tank, as well as a new water transmission main to connect to the existing distribution system.

Funding comes from the $200 million top up of the Municipal Rural Infrastructure Fund (MRIF) announced in March 2007. The federal government is directing $64 million in funding to existing clean water applications under the MRIF in Ontario.
