Canadian and Saskatchewan governments team up to improve Temporary Foreign Worker program

REGINA

The federal government and province of Saskatchewan are teaming up on several fronts to improve the Temporary Foreign Worker Program.

Improvements to the federal program include strengthening protections for temporary foreign workers and improving outreach and communications with both employers and temporary foreign workers.

“I am pleased that both governments are developing new and improved publications in several different languages,,” said Monte Solberg, Minister of Human Resources and Social Development.

“We are also working together on outreach activities to ensure that not only do workers know their rights but also that employers know their responsibilities when hiring a foreign worker in Saskatchewan and across Canada.”

The federal and provincial governments will support the protection of temporary foreign workers by providing them with information on labour standards, occupational health and safety and work-related rights.

Saskatchewan is the fourth province to join the federal government’s efforts to facilitate information sharing on these important labour issues.
