Iowa worker dies after being struck by crane’s counter-weight

ATLANTIC, Iowa

Authorities say a construction worker has died after he was struck by a crane near a bridge project along Interstate 80 in western Iowa.

Officials say 25-year-old Michael Williams of Cherokee was killed as he was directing the crane and its counter-weight hit him.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities say the accident happened Tuesday, August 12, 2008 in Cass County near the Atlantic exit.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is expected to investigate the accident.
