Aecon wins $105-million contract for Highway 401 near Woodstock

TORONTO

Aecon Group Inc. has been awarded a $105-million contract to reconstruct and widen a 15-kilometre stretch of Highway 401 just east of Woodstock, Ont.

The Toronto-based construction company says it’s the third-largest contract ever awarded by the Ontario government’s transportation ministry.

The 401 is Ontario’s major east-west route, stretching from the Quebec border to Windsor in southwestern Ontario.

Aecon will rebuild seven bridges, install a concrete median barrier and expand the highway to six lanes from four.

Work on the project has already begun and is scheduled to be completed in the fall of 2011.
