Structal lands $12 million steel fabrication, erection contract for Edmonton Clinic North
BOUCHERVILLE, Que.
Structal-Heavy Steel Construction, a business unit of Canam Group Inc., has secured a contract worth $12 million from PCL Construction Management Inc. for the fabrication and erection of the structural steel frame required to build Edmonton Clinic North.
This six-storey building will cover a total surface area of 500,000 square feet.
“We are very proud of this contract,” said Structal president Luc Pelland.
“Not only is this a breakthrough for us in the Western Canadian market, but it also means that our expertise and excellent customer service are recognized in the healthcare construction sector.”
Fabrication of the structural steel components, mainly in Canam Group’s Calgary and Sunnyside, Wash., plants, will begin in the fall of 2008. The erection process is scheduled to begin in February 2009 and should be completed during the third quarter of 2009.
Edmonton Clinic North will be administered by the University of Alberta and will be devoted to teaching and research.
It will be part of The Edmonton Clinic, a world-class healthcare facility scheduled to open in 2011 and the first of its kind to be built in Canada.
Structal-Heavy Steel Construction is specialized in major and complex construction projects and also offers engineering support, design-build and project management services.
