South Dakota’s rural water system gets a high-tech update

RAPID VALLEY, SD

After one year of construction, a high-tech water treatment plant has opened east of Rapid City, South Dakota.

The oldest rural water system in South Dakota now processes 2-million-gallons a day using a technology that allows water to flow through hollow-fibre filtration modules to remove particles and microorganisms from the water.

Once it leaves the modules, ultraviolet light disinfects the water and treats it with chlorine and fluoride.
