$9.5M Innisfil admin centre taking shape
Aecon Buildings is moving full speed ahead on construction of a $9.5 million administration centre in the town of Innisfil, near Barrie.
Structural steel erection has been completed, said Richard Yan, a Toronto-based senior project manager at Aecon. As of mid-June, roofing was 70 per cent finished as was mechanical and electrical “rough-in” work.
Installation of wood trusses for the council chamber is also well advanced, with work 80 per cent complete, Yan said. The chamber has an exposed wood roof structure.
The town broke ground late last September on the 38,000-square-foot design-build project, undertaken by the team of Aecon Buildings Ottawa and Griffiths Rankin Cook (GRC) Architects.
The facility includes a council chamber with public gallery, offices, executive meeting rooms, community rooms, archival storage and a reception hall for special functions.
The design-build team is seeking LEED certification for the project.
“Construction is progressing well,” said Peter Croft of GRC.
The design responds to the mixed urban-rural setting of the community.
Some 32 tradespeople are on site. The scheduled completion date is Nov. 15.
Major subtrades include: London Paving (excavation and backfill); Alliance Forming Ltd. (formwork and concrete finishing); Lorvin Steel Ltd. (structural steel); Marin (2000) Inc. (drywall); Barrie Glass & Mirror Ltd. (glazing); Sprint Insight (mechanical); and Drycore Electric 2002 Inc. (electrical).
