SNC-Lavalin has signed a $587-million contract to design and build the Waneta Expansion, a 335-megawatt hydroelectric power facility on the Pend d’Oreille River just south of Trail, B.C.

SNC-Lavalin has signed a $587-million contract to design and build the Waneta Expansion, a 335-megawatt hydroelectric power facility on the Pend d’Oreille River just south of Trail, B.C.

The project is being undertaken through a limited partnership of Fortis Inc, Columbia Power Corp. (CPC) and Columbia Basin Trust (CBT).

Fortis Inc. and CPC/CBT have concluded agreements to construct the Waneta Expansion at an estimated total cost of approximately $900 million. This is the third power expansion project in the region for SNC-Lavalin following the Arrow Lakes Generating Station and the Brilliant Expansion Project.
