Beijing’s municipal government has rolled out an informatization infrastructure plan, aiming at transforming the city into an information hub and Internet centre, according to Bai Xin, an official with Beijing Economic and Informatization Commission.

Beijing’s municipal government has rolled out an informatization infrastructure plan, aiming at transforming the city into an information hub and Internet centre, according to Bai Xin, an official with Beijing Economic and Informatization Commission.

The municipal government expected to absorb rolling investment of 100 billion yuan (US$14.6 billion) for the construction of the informatization infrastructure by 2012.

Beijing plans to take the lead in building the urban-rural integrated high-speed broadband information networks. By the end of May 2009, Beijing boasts 10.4 million netizens, 8.8 million fixed-line phone users and 17 million cell phone users.
