Building trades postpone conference

The Canadian office of the AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department has postponed its legislative conference that was scheduled for Sept. 19 to 22 in Ottawa.

The Canadian office of the AFL-CIO Building and Construction Trades Department has postponed its legislative conference that was scheduled for Sept. 19 to 22 in Ottawa.

A statement by the department says the dates were originally chosen to coincide with the return of the House of Commons for the fall session.

“Unfortunately,” the department says, “the government has elected to reconvene on Oct. 4, 2004.”

As a result, very few Members of Parliament will be in Ottawa during the dates originally scheduled, the department says.

Since the main purpose of the legislative conference was to lobby of Members of Parliament on issues of importance for building trades members and their families, the department says it has decided to postpone the conference until April 2005.

The department says it is confident that this is in the best interest of the long term effectiveness and viability of the conference.
